Homemade Big Mac Special Sauce

Homemade Big Mac Special Sauce

This recipe is the result of a happy accident.  A few weeks ago I had a craving for thousand island dressing but we were short on several ingredients.  I really didn’t feel like dragging the boys to the grocery store so I threw together what we had and tossed it on a salad.  Just one bite instantly transported me back to my teenage years.  This recipe captured the flavor so perfectly, I couldn’t wait to grill up a good burger and recreate the entire thing.

Big Mac Special Sauce Recipe

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt (I use full fat)
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons dill pickle, finely minced
  • 2 Tablespoons yellow onion, finely minced

  • Mix the mayo, yogurt, ketchup, vinegar, honey, salt and pepper in a small-medium sized bowl.  Stir until smooth and mixed through.
  • Add the pickle and onion and give it another quick stir.
  • Refrigerate for an hour or so before eating.  (You can eat it right away if you want but it’s too sweet for my liking.  When you let it sit, the onion and pickle take the edge off the sweetness, the flavors blend and it’s noticeably tastier).
