West End Farmers Market Review

West End Farmers Market Review

West End Farmers Market

This market is in front of a small shopping center at Gayton Rd and Ridgefield Pkwy (Ollie’s shopping center).  I guess it’s considered Short Pump but it’s a bit off of the main drag.  It’s not the most charming setting but there’s tons of parking and a surprising number of vendors.  I’d been to this market in the past on their alternate day and was disappointed.  I finally gave it another try on a Saturday, their primary market day, and I’m glad I did.  They have a solid selection of 2-3 dozen vendors.  Stalls include produce, pastured meat (including chicken pieces which can be hard to find), eggs, baked goods, some prepared foods, nuts, plants and a few stalls selling home and garden products.  I would have liked some more organic vendors but overall the selection was quite good.  The stand out in my opinion are the bread vendors.  Montana Gold, a popular bread maker in Richmond, has a booth.  There was also a vendor called Abundant Life – an amish vendor near Louisa that even mills its own flour.  I bought their onion rye loaf and it was excellent.  Overall this is a sold, no frills market – get in, get out, and go home with good food!
