Baked Bananas

I love dessert, but I also love to eat healthy.  Fortunately the two are not mutually exclusive!  I’m always on the lookout for simple desserts that use natural sweeteners (like fruit) and provide legitimate nutrition.  Baked bananas totally fit that bill.  Just toss some bananas into your oven, wait 15-20 minutes and you’ve got a warm, gooey, delicious dessert with virtually no work.  This makes a great go-to dessert for kids or unexpected company!

Baked Bananas Recipe


  • Bananas (ripe or over-ripe bananas taste best)


  • Arrange your bananas on a cookie sheet leaving a few inches between bananas.
  • Bake (with the skin on) at 300 degrees for 15-20 minutes until the skin is black.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute (they’ll be hot).  Then just slice open the peel and dig in!


  • Baking makes these so sweet they’re delicious all by themselves.  But if you want to fancy them up a bit, here are some suggestions:
    • In the last couple minutes of cooking, slice the peels open and sprinkle the inside with chocolate chips
    • After baking, top the bananas with yogurt, ice-cream, sundae toppings or whatever strikes your fancy!
    • Mash the baked bananas with a little cinnamon for a pudding like dessert
