How this blog works

Have you ever wondered how to make chapstick? body lotion? home cleaning products? pickles?… Well, so have I and they’re easier than you think!

Welcome to Young Mother Hubbard’s where you can find good, old fashioned, do-it-yourself skills for the modern home.  This blog is a growing list of projects for the home, garden, bath, body, kitchen and more.  It provides “recipes” for products that are easy to make, natural, effective and cost a fraction of their store bought equivalents.

My hope for this blog is to share my DIY experience and present you with a tried and true list of projects that busy people can realistically  incorporate into their lives.  There are many reasons to DIY – the products you make are better for your family, kinder to the environment, less expensive and can even be fun and empowering.  However, we are all busy and most people simply don’t have time for extensive projects or trial and error.  Therefore, I’ve done the hard part for you.  I have personally tried hundreds of recipes and reduced that giant list to those that are both effective AND easy to make.

Browse the index: to see if something catches your eye.  And please come back regularly – I’m always experimenting with new projects and fine tuning existing recipes.  And I love hearing your feedback.  How’d you like the recipe?  How could they be better?  What new items would you like to see?  Do you have a great recipe to share?  Feel free to comment on any recipe or email me directly at

There is so much untapped wisdom out there, together we can create something great!

Happy do-it-yourselfing!

Jen Hubbard
